W3C validation a ranking factor?

W3C validation a ranking factor?
Maybe, maybe not.
I keep seeing claims that your site needs to be W3C validated in order to rank more highly on Google. There is no proof that this claim is in fact true.
If you look at the first page of results for any key phrase term in Google you will find sites that fail W3C validation.
In Fact Google itself fails W3C validation so is it a ranking factor? Probably not but if it is, it probably doesn’t make much of a difference anyway.
